When is the Old Library open?

The Old Library (and our exhibitions) are open to the public for much of the year on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Please visit our Christ's Library Visitors page for full details.

Can I see first editions of Paradise Lost or On the Origin of Species?

Members of the College (past and present) may arrange to see such items with a minimum three days’ notice by emailing library@christs.cam.ac.uk. It is not usually possible to consult rare items on Saturdays or Sundays.

Can I bring guests to the Old Library?

Members of the College are welcome to bring guests for visits during staffed hours (Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm), but please give us as much notice as possible.

Other visitors are encouraged to visit during our public opening hours, or can make an appointment to see the Old Library at least three days in advance.

Visits for groups of 6 or more are welcome, but please email library@christs.cam.ac.uk at least three days in advance to make arrangements.

Visits are not normally possible on Saturdays or Sundays -- our apologies.

What will I see in the Old Library?

The Old Library is home to our collection of rare book and antiquarian material.

We regularly curate exhibitions featuring items from our collections.

As we are also home to a number of artworks, we have recently created an 'Art Trail' which we hope will enhance your visit! Just look for the signs at the ends of the bookcases.
